East 96th Street Playground
East 96th Street Playground, located just west of 5th Avenue, contains three separate play structures for the enjoyment of both younger and older children. This playground includes an enclosed area containing a short, more accessible play gym, a fairly large sandbox, and six bucket swings. Outside of the toddler area, East 96th Street Playground features a wooden play zone including tire swings hanging from cris-crossed planks and wooden blocks to climb on. A larger pipe-rail play gym for older children offers a spiral slide, a bridge, and plenty of ladders. The most appealing aspect of East 96th Playground is the sturdy tree house in a nicely shaded corner of the playground that is built close to the ground for easy supervision, and ladder-accessible. East 96th Playground provides plenty of seating for parents, drinking fountains, and both asphalt and rubber play surfaces.
